Ascension Parish Dry Pond Meeting on November 8, 2021

Three representatives from the HOA Board (Misty Entremont, Christina Martino, and Justin Smith) attended a meeting with the parish administration on Monday, October 25, 2021. The administration is putting our drainage plan for our pond on the next meeting agenda scheduled for November 8th. The Drainage Committee will be voting on the following three options for our detention pond and this vote is extremely important for our neighborhood:

Option 1 – Creating a wet pond

Option 2 – (a) Digging a trench in the center of the servitude – this is only a temporary fix that will require maintenance by the parish and the home owners will still be required to mow or (b) Digging a trench then concreting the center

Option 3 – Do nothing

The administration has encouraged us to make sure we have residents from our neighborhood attend this meeting. We need the support of our neighborhood and ask that you attend and choose to speak on our constant drainage issues so that we can convince the Drainage Committee to choose to make a pond a wet pond. We have been working on this project for years and eagerly want a resolution to fix our drainage issues.  Councilman Aaron Lawler has been persistent in trying to help our neighborhood fix this issue, but we need each of you to speak about the streets flooding and how it will impact all of us if we don’t get this problem fixed. Please let the Board know if you plan to attend this meeting that will be held at the Courthouse on November 8th at 6pm. If you have any questions please email the Board at shadowsatmanchachoa@gmail.com.

UPDATE:  A question was asked if the dry pond was converted into an actual pond, would that help the drainage issue.  According to the parish engineer, the elevation in the capacity of the pond will not change – it will still be able to hold the capacity that it is designed to hold.  To create a wet pond, we will have to dig the pond deeper.  This will also help avoid vegetation growth.  That is just one option.  The other two options involve digging a ditch through the middle of the pond to make it to where it will drain off and flow like it is supposed to possibly concreting the center of the ditch through the middle, which would be less maintenance for the parish. According to the parish, making it a wet pond will not increase your chances of flooding, it will decrease them because the pond is currently silted, where rock, mineral or clay fragments 1/20 millimeter diameter or smaller settle once the movement of water stops and disrupts the flow of water.
